Mark Williams, age 95, a resident of Holmstad in Batavia and formerly of Warrenville and West Chicago, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 24th.
Born in 1912, Mark grew up in Indiana where he attended Garfield High School and earned his BS and later his MA in math and French from Indiana State Teacher's College in Terre Haute, Indiana. His early teaching years were interrupted by WW II when he served in the US Navy. He taught high school math and coached basketball and baseball in Indiana and North Carolina before coming to Wheaton Academy in 1951. He taught there for 27 years and retired in 1978. Mark taught as though teaching was not only his avocation in life, but also his mission.
Mark is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty, son, Jonathan of Sandwich, daughter, Julia (Douglas) Ehorn of Winfield, and 8 grandchildren, Lynn (Ken) Ahola, Melissa McDonald, Sarah, Rachel, and Jonathan Williams, and Casey (Ashlee) Ehorn, Seth (Rachel) Ehorn, and Clare Ehorn. Four great-grand children also survive him: Heaven, Kenneth Jr., and Abram Ahola, and Kaiden Williams. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and son, Paul Mark Williams.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 28, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 29 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1310 N. Main St. Wheaton. Interment will be private.
