Obituary

Marjorie Joy Stevens (nee Pritchard), known to friends as "Marge", passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023 in her residence at a senior living center in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 97. She was born in Newark, New Jersey, on July 17, 1926, daughter of Edwin Moore Pritchard and Mabel (Kierstead) Pritchard. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Pritchard, of New Jersey, her beloved daughter, Suzanne Joy Orange (nee Stevens) (Michael), and her loving husband, Robert Louis Stevens ("Bob") of nearly 70 years of marriage, who together settled in Wheaton, Illinois, where they raised their three children. Marge is survived by sons Bruce Russell Stevens (Joan) and Kent Randall Stevens (Elizabeth), four grandchildren David R. Stevens, Brian D. Stevens, Jennifer J. Ritter (nee Orange) (John), Steven M. Orange (Ingrid), and four great-grandchildren Avery and Ani Orange, and Eleanor and Benjamin Ritter. Marge graduated from Wheelock College (Boston University) with a degree in early education, and later obtained a master's degree in learning disabilities which she applied to her long teaching career helping generations of children as a learning disabilities specialist. She was a lifelong learner and talented artist in a variety of media especially paintings in oil, acrylic, and water colors, and served as president of the DuPage County Art League. Marge was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, Illinois, since the early 1960s, notably responsible for development of the youth program, establishment of the Suzanne Stevens Orange Memorial Children's Library, and serving as a Deacon and outreach Stephen Minister. Together with her husband Bob, Marge was a world traveler and outgoing well-loved neighbor known to all on their street in Wheaton. A memorial service celebrating Marge's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N. Carlton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, on October 13 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to designate First Presbyterian Church (Wheaton) for memorial gifts.
