Obituary

Marjorie H. Reese, age 80, a resident of Wheaton, IL died on Friday, October 30, 2021, at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, Illinois.

Marjorie Miner Hayden was born April 29, 1941, in Barnstable, Massachusetts to Frank and Jessie Hayden. She grew up on Cape Cod, MA, in the towns of Cohasset, and South Yarmouth. She had a passion for sailing and racing sailboats. She couldn't get enough of the water, spending every chance she could there. As an adult she enjoyed crafts, home decorating, plants, and music, including song writing and playing instruments. She loved animals and spent her life surrounded by them. While living on the Cape she enjoyed horseback riding.  Marjorie "Marge" married Duane Edward Merchant July 26, 1962 and lived in their custom-built home in East Dennis, MA which Duane had built. There they had four children. In 1975, the family moved to Ocala, Florida. In 1984, Duane died in a tragic plane crash. Marjorie later married Joseph "Roscoe" Reese. Family was extremely important to Marjorie and her greatest joy was her children and family. She loved to decorate for every season and holiday.  As a woman of the Christian Faith, her children grew up singing alongside her in the choir at church. In 1986, she relocated to Naples, FL to be near her parents and there she worked as a Medical Coder at Naples Community Hospital until she retired in 2007. Marjorie was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed taking cruises, at least 27 minimum, earning a herself Diamond membership. While in Naples, when she wasn't on a cruise, you would find her down at the beach, walking along the shore shelling or swimming. While retired in Ocala she enjoyed adding to her extensive cooking collection and loved going out to eat at every restaurant, making food a family time. Marjorie valued and enjoyed education--her education included: Lasell Jr College, Boston, MA 1959-60; Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts 1970-74; Cape Cod Comm. College, Hyannis, MA 1973-75; Central Florida Comm. College, Ocala FL 1976-1977.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Dixie Merchant, Duane Merchant and wife Stephanie, Dorraine Mason and husband Mike, and Don Merchant and wife Brandi; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and one brother Charles Hayden.

She was preceded in death by her husband's Duane Merchant and Roscoe Reese.
