Marion E. Fjellander, age 91, a resident of Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville, died Monday, June 28. She was born on August 14, 1918 in Chicago to John and Ebba Anderson.
She was a graduate of North Park Academy and worked in the administrative offices of school district #68 and #73 in Skokie for 21 and 10 years respectively where she held key administrative staff positions including Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. She was a former member of the North Shore Church in Chicago and Park Ridge Bible Church where Marion taught Sunday School and played the piano. During her seventies she faithfully served in a Nursing Home Church Service Ministry in Niles IL. In her eighties she was involved in a Prison Ministry Bible Study program to help prisoners study the Bible. She supported the ministries of the Swedish Covenant Church, The Gideons and the Berean Bible Society. Her energy, enthusiasm and willingness to put the needs of others ahead of her own, were and continue to be a source of inspiration and motivation to all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, John Kenyon (Karen Joyce nee Wendt) Fjellander; and two grandchildren, Paul Erik Fjellander and Karla Joann (Michael) Gerbitz; one great-grandson, Ian Gerbitz; and her sister, Eleanor (Tom) Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Paul, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 30, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will be private at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
