Obituary

Marion E. Craig (1917-2012) passed away on August 23 in Johnson
Health Care Center of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL. She was born
to missionary parents, Isaac and Esther Caldwell in Kangundu, Kenya,
Africa. Surviving the difficult times on this pioneer mission station, her
family returned to the United States where Marion did well in school.

After graduating from Farmington Illinois High School she entered
Wheaton College, then, after two years, transferred to Illinois State
University where she received her B.A. degree. While a teacher of
children at the Los Alamos New Mexico Atomic Energy Laboratory
installation, in summer months she earned her M.S.in Education from
University of Colorado at Greeley and was inducted into the PHI DELTA
KAPPA Honorary Educational Fraternity. Later, as a principal of an
Arvada, Colorado, grade school she won a landmark legal case in
education and then was invited to assist in the office of the
Superintendent of Schools. During the course of her long educational
career she influenced many children's learning experiences.
She enjoyed playing the piano, watching PBS TV and reading news
magazines. Her travel included the Holy Land, Hawaii, Alaska and
various locations of family members. In 1973 Marion married William
Craig in Arvada, Colorado, where they lived and attended the Arvada
Evangelical Covenant Church. William preceded her in death in 1990.

Surviving are her step-daughter, Karen Johnson (David) of Parker,
Colorado, and three step-granddaughters: Julie Kessler (Jon), Jill, and
Joanna McMillen (Eric) and four step-great grandchildren, Zachary,
Katie, Lucy and Nora.
Preceding Marion in death are sister Margaret Caldwell and brother
Samuel Caldwell. Surviving members of her immediate family are
Gordon Caldwell (Mary), Houston, TX, Ruth McKellin Peterson, Carol
Stream, IL, and Paul Caldwell (Ruth) Carbondale, IL. Surviving also are
sixteen nieces and nephews.

At Marion's request, a Memorial Service will be held in the Dining Lounge of Johnson Health Care Center on Tuesday, August 28 at 2:30 p.m.
