Marilyn E.
Wetherell
February 2, 1928 – December 7, 2023
Marilyn E. Wetherell, age 95, a resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. She was born February 2, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Ruth and Otto Straub. Marilyn grew up in Morgan Park, with life revolving around family, friends, and the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church pastored by A.W. Tozer.
Marilyn graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1945 and, after a year of study at Taylor University, returned to Chicago. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Warren Wetherell, founder and president of an advertising and design firm in Chicago. She supported her husband in business and in a variety of community service projects, including the formation of Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where she was an active leader in the Women's Auxiliary. She was also a loving mother to her children, Wendy, Wes and Reid and her step children, Polly and Bryan, and an active member at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church.
In the 1970's, Marilyn began a second career as a travel agent first at Gary Wheaton Travel, and then later at Hobson Travel in Naperville. She cherished friendships from all walks of life, including her church and the "Koinonia" group, her co-workers, especially the "Hobson Dollies," Lynn Drive neighbors, Mr. Van's Beauty Salon… She made friends almost everywhere she went.
Through her work, she also was able to travel extensively, especially with her husband. Rarely apart during their 46 year marriage, Marilyn and Warren were devoted to their Lord Jesus Christ, their family, and especially each other – commitments Marilyn continued after Warren's passing in 2001. Marilyn cared deeply for all she knew, praying daily for family, friends, and many others from her ever-expanding prayer list. Most recently, she greatly appreciated the wonderful support and loving care she received at Atria Park of Glen Ellyn.
She is survived by her brother Frank W. Straub children: Wendy B. Romero, Weston B. (Beth), Reid B. (Lisa) and step-son W. Brian (Marie); her 10 grandchildren (and their spouses): Janelle and Alanna Romero; Brad (Kristen), Matt (Kaitlyn) Elise (Brad) and Davis (Rebecca) Wetherell; Janine (Matt), Christopher, Nicki (Luke) and Sarah Wetherell; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren; step-daughter Polly Sue Ribkee. sister-in-law Barbara Straub, and many dear friends.
