IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Ann
Roe
October 8, 1936 – June 3, 2024
Marilyn Ann Roe, age 87, a longtime resident of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 3, 2024. She was born October 8, 1936 in Newton, Massachusetts to William & Mabel Williams.
Marilyn moved to Wheaton in 1967, where she raised her four children in their cozy Hale street home. She volunteered her time and talents with local organizations and the church as her family put down roots in Wheaton. Marilyn began work as an executive administrative assistant at Christianity Today, specifically Campus Life Magazine, in 1985 and continued work there until her retirement in 2009. She is remembered there for her ability to problem-solve, a sharp sense of humor, and seemingly unlimited supply of M&Ms .
Marilyn was very active during her adult life while balancing work and family. She enjoyed golfing and bowling, and in later years, strolling along the paths of Northside Park in Wheaton. She also remained a very active member of Faith Covenant Church in Wheaton for over 50 years. This community was vitally important to her faith and that of her kids through the ups and downs of life.
Known as "Grandma Roe" to her many grandchildren, Marilyn adored time spent with her family. She always made time for concerts, plays, musicals, sporting events, birthday's, or taking grandkids to McDonald's for special time with Grandma. Marilyn also loved time with her friends, and church small group of over 16 years.
Her kindness and concern for others earned her the nickname "Momma Marilyn" at her assisted living home during her last year of life. She enjoyed the people's company and made it a point to strike up conversations with those she had just met. It is this gift of helping, befriending, and serving others that we will always remember about our Mom.
She is survived by her children: Andrea (Chris) Baer, Brian (Iwona) Roe & Nathan (Kate) Roe; her son-in-law Robert Taggart; her grandchildren: Colin, Blake, Madeleine, Christian, Mitchall, Zachary, Michael, Richard, Samantha, Ashley, Anna, Caleb, Leah, Laura, Rebecca, Isaiah, Aiden; her four great-grandchildren; her sister Blanche (the late Robert) Roach.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Marcia Taggart and her brother Douglas (the late Anita) Williams.
A visitation will be held at Faith Evangelical Covenant Church, 2001 Lakeview Dr, Wheaton, IL 60189, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@faithcovenant_church?si=738Ig9bVYxqYCaOb
