Marilyn A. Oddo, age 86, a resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, died Friday, August 19, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL. She was born March 8, 1930 in Appleton, WI.
Marilyn was born in Appleton, WI to Reno and Alma Doerfler, younger sister to Warren. She grew up there and formed some long lasting friendships, which she has always cherished and continued throughout her life. She moved to Chicago to attend Wesley School of Nursing (Northwestern University). During that time she was only one of five nursing students throughout the nation that was honored with the Clara Barton Award. As a RN she worked most of her career in ER and started the G.I. lab at Gottllieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, IL. During this time she married and raised three children. After retiring from a long and fulfilling career, she became an avid gardener. She spent the whole Winter planning and anticipating the Spring to start her garden. Her various pet dogs and watching squirrels and birds gave her much enjoyment, too. Her fashion sense and love of clothing has been passed on to her granddaughters (Talbots has lost a devoted customer). She loved spoiling her five grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. Her special gentle nature, genuine caring, and Christian values will always be remembered by those who knew her and loved her. She will be extremely missed by her family. We love you Mom.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara (Richard Moyer) Oddo of Buffalo Grove, IL, James (Linda) Oddo of Wheaton, IL and Mark (Kimberly) Oddo of Wheaton; five grandchildren, Samantha and Michael, and Alyssa, Mitchell and Phillip Oddo; her brother, Dr. Warren (Candice) Doerfler; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at
