Marilyn McCracken, age 84, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, and formerly a longtime resident of Elmhurst, died Monday, September 27, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL.
She was born in Chicago on January 21, 1926, and born again accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1936. She was a graduate of Fenger High School and attended Wheaton College.
She was a homemaker, hostess, wife and mother, worshipping at Lombard Gospel Chapel, where she was active in VBS, Sunday School teacher and Ladies Bible Study leader. She was also involved in the Elmhurst Hospital Auxiliary, the Christian Women's Club, the Evangelical Child and Family Agency Women's Auxiliary where she started the Ardmore Attic, a resale shop that benefited the ECFA.
She is survived by four children, Jeffrey (Rhonda) McCracken of Kansas, Bari (Randy) Behnken of Kentucky, Jay Wilson (Kim) McCracken of Wheaton, and Jonathan (Susan) McCracken of New Jersey; twelve grandchildren, Elizabeth (Daniel) Daghfal, Talbott (Misty) Behnken, and Caroline (Jason) Bohm, and Allison (Josh) Budimlija, Lindsay McCracken, Darcy (Craig) Coady, Brett, Kayly, Jack, Kenny, Sarah and Jonathan Jeffrey Wilson McCracken; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Wilson McCracken; her sister, Wynne Cole; and her daughter-in-law, Joanie McCracken.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 30, from 4 until 9 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lombard Gospel Chapel, 369 N. Stewart Ave., Lombard, IL 60148. Interment will follow at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, IL.
