Marie W. Schuering, age 99, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022.  She was born October 13, 1923 in Chicago to Thomas & Bertha Walsh.

Marie spent most of her childhood in Chicago and also lived in Ireland, Florida, and California.  She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign.  After graduation, she worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines.  When she married Al, she lost her job because married women could not be flight attendants.  She met the demands of raising six children and being the wife of an Air Force officer.  For many years, Marie was an election judge in Wheaton.  She had an interest in playing tennis, traveling, touring open houses, and collecting antiques.  She enjoyed spending time with her sister and brother, especially at family reunions and when relatives visited from Ireland.  One of her favorite places to visit was Door County, Wisconsin.  When her son, Terry, became a resident of the Ann M. Kiley Developmental Center in Waukegan, she became an active board member and was editor of its parent newsletter.  After moving into a retirement residence, she stayed active with various committees, singing groups, painting classes, spelling bees, and current events contests.  She was often the top winner of the spelling bees and current events classes much to the dismay of her fellow residents.

She is survived by her children Eric (Margaret) Schuering, Steven (Marcy) Schuering, Alan (Theresa) Schuering, Mark (Diane Bucia) Schuering, and Terry Schuering; her grandchildren Brian (Roxanne) Schuering, Adam Schuering, Elizabeth Schuering (Erik Chizeck), Kelly (Jared) Kutsch, Kevin Schuering, Katie Schuering (Brandon Hauer), Ryan Schuering, and Brett Schuering; and her great-grandchildren Finn Schuering, Sally Schuering, Nina Schuering, and Hayden Kutsch.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Schuering, her sister Kaye Evaldson, her brother Thomas Walsh, and her daughter Diane (Roger) McFadden.

A memorial visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
