Marie T. Mackenzie, 94, of The Fox Valley, died at DuPage County Care in Wheaton, on May 16, 2026.

A native of Illinois, she was the wife of John Boyd MacKenzie, deceased, and the daughter of Charles & Johanna (Meidel) also deceased, of Oak Park and Springfield, Illinois.

Marie had 3 children, Dan MacKenzie, of Bloomingdale, Dana MacKenzie Dougherty (1986) and her husband Ed, of Wake Forest, NC, and David Mackenzie (1985) and his Wife Jennifer, of Apple River, IL. She has three grandchildren. Boyd MacKenzie and his wife Gia, Morgan MacKenzie Hughes and her husband Ryan, and Kara MacKenzie. Marie has 2 great grandchildren, Aurora, and Carmella.

She met her husband Boyd (football team quarterback/Captain) while she was the cheer-leading captain at Elmhurst College (now Elmhurst University). Marie graduated in 1953, with a degree in Speech Therapy. She and Boyd, married in 1955 after his stint in the Army. She continued teaching until they started their family. She stayed active with Elmhurst College committees, as well as an active member at St. Peter's, in Elmhurst. When time permitted, she was on the PTA, at Lincoln school in Elmhurst, and took turns being “The Picture Lady”. She even filled in as a speech therapist when evaluations rolled around. She also was a private speech tutor when she was a young mother. In the 80's and 90's she worked for the Carol Stream school system. After her retirement, she started tutoring again, when anyone she knew, had a child or grandchild that needed a little help.

Marie became a member of P.E.O, Chapter KB, St. Charles, IL in May 1996. She enjoyed the sisterhood, and they carried her through some difficult times. She continued staying engaged though cards and notes and an occasional bridge game with sisters visiting her at DuPage County Care.

Marie would like to be remembered most as a Christian, confident in her faith with God. The legacy she left with the many people she touched, will be of her faith, and knowledge of her many interests. Consider yourself fortunate, if you received one of her pages she ripped out of a book, or a page, card or bookmark, she colored/created just for you.

A memorial service will be held at Geneva Methodist Church, 211 Hamilton Street, Geneva, IL. 60134 at 2:00 pm on August 29th, 2026

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Geneva Women's Programs, or St. Charles P.E.O, Chapter KB.
