Obituary

Margo Elizabeth Schreiber, age 79, a resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, formerly of Naperville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 14, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She was born December 26, 1937 in Marion, Ohio to Sheldon and Florence (nee Maag) Dodds.

She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion Harding High School. She attended Bowling Green University. She left college to marry and start a family. She moved to Columbus and re-married and began an interest in politics.

In 1973, she moved to Naperville with her four children. She was a stay at home mom who became more active in politics. In 1975, she was elected as City Clerk of Naperville. Margo went on to serve as Director of DuPage County Human Services and then was appointed by Governor George Ryan on his cabinet as Director of IL Department on Aging.

She founded the first Senior Citizen Program in Addison Township and secured their first Federal Grant. She also founded the first DuPage County Senior Citizen Program, the first Senior Citizen Transportation Program for DuPage County and started DuPage County Human Services Department. She was on the Governor's appointed task force to create the IL Department of Human Services.

Margo also wrote a regular newspaper column called "Seniors Ask" for over 22 years appearing in 50 publications. She served as a member or founded DuPage County Healthy Communities Initiative, Metropolitan Family Service Board, Wyndemere/Wynscape Board in Wheaton, IL Mental Health Association Board, and numerous State and Local boards on housing initiatives, child support issues and State of IL Energy Task Force.

During her career she served on the Board of Governors for Central DuPage Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital. She was appointed by the IL Supreme Court (four times) to select full 18th Judicial Circuit judges and chaired three of four Judicial Screening Committees. She also served as the State of IL Chairman for Senior Citizens of the Reagan/Bush and Bush/Quayle presidential elections and attended the Republican National Conventions. She was elected as a Wayne Township Trustee, and was Chairman of many local, state and national political campaigns over 25 years.

She enjoyed travel, fashion and fine dining. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children, Mark (Danelle Gallis) Schreiber of Barrington, Doug (Amanda) Schreiber of Bollingbrook, and Melinda Schreiber Dul of Bartlett, seven grandchildren, Doug Jr, Nicholas, Mike, Brittany, Briana, Madeline, and Jillian, and one great-granddaughter, Kaiya. She is also survived by her brothers David (Pam) Dodds and Daniel (Terry) Dodds both of Ohio. She was preceded in death by two children, Gregory Freese and Lisa Warner Stewart and one grandson, Daniel Preston Schreiber.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
