Margene K. Halley, age 70, a resident of North Aurora, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025 . She was born November 7, 1954 in Modesto, CA to Everet & Anna Marie Fikse. She grew up on her father's almond farm in Ripon California and attended the public schools until she graduated from Ripon High School as salutatorian in 1972. Margene went on to attend Northwestern College in Orange city, Iowa, and in three years graduated Summa Cum Laude with a teaching degree. It was at Northwestern that she met her husband Bill and they were married in 1975 right after graduation. The couple moved to Illinois and lived in the Chicago area for the next fifty years. Margene began teaching until she stopped in 1978 to have her first child Keaton. She continued to raise three more boys, Landon, Tyson, and Preston, for the next eleven years before returning to teaching in the public schools. She also spent a couple years working at Windsor Park Manor, a retirement community in Carol Stream, Illinois and finished her career working at a missions organization called TEAM. During that time she picked up a Masters Degree as a reading specialist. Margene was also very active in her church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a Deaconess and served on various committees. One of Marge's many gifts was hostessing. Her house was always open and she loved to entertain friends and family She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William; her children Keaton, Landon (Erin), Tyson (Johanna) & Preston (Juliana) Halley; her grandchildren Grayson, Katherine, Jamison, Margaret, Hudson, Jude, Rowan, Nora & Charlie; her three brothers Leon (Harriet) Fikse, Lyle (Linda) Fikse & Mervyn (Peggy) Fikse; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave, West Chicago, IL 60185, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at West Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, IL.
