Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Dorothea Landon Schoenherr, 89, of Wheaton, IL, passed away on December 7, 2016 at Wyndemere Senior Living Community.

She was born in Bangkok, Siam on September 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Kenneth P. and Margaret Mortenson Landon. She is survived by her spouse of 68 years, Charles Schoenherr; their five children, Margaret (Bob) Trask, John (former wife, Leslie) Schoenherr, William (Janie) Schoenherr, Ann (Darren) Root, Laura (Brad) Bennett; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two brothers, William (Pat) Landon, Kenneth P. Landon, Jr.; and a sister, Carol Pearson.

Peggy moved from Siam to the United States at the age of nine with her family. They eventually settled in Washington, D.C., where she finished high school. The transition was not easy, but early on she developed a motto to live by that remained with her throughout the years; "Life is a challenge. Peggy, rise to the occasion."

She graduated from Wheaton College in 1949, where she met her husband, Charles. They married shortly before graduation on December 16, 1948. They began a life together raising a growing family and furthering his education and career as a college administrator. Peggy also completed a Master's Degree in Elementary Education at Shippensburg University (PA), and taught elementary school for many years.

Peggy had much to be proud of. She was blessed with a natural beauty, an abundance of grace and kindness, a love of literature, a sense of playfulness, an eye for fashion, and hands that could sew, knit, paint, and make just about anything look beautiful or taste good. But, she was not one to boast. Her goal in life was very simple, "To know Christ, and make Him known by humbly serving others." She fulfilled the goal in countless ways, inspiring her family and friends to share in the mission.
