Margaret "Peg" Penney Hopeman, age 89, a resident of Windsor Park, died Monday, June 18, 2018. She was born in Washington, D.C., on October 26, 1928 to Jessie (Williams) and George Leonard Naramore.
Peg received her RN from West Suburban School of Nursing Class of 1949. She received her BSN from Wheaton College and married Donald Edwin Penney the same day, June 11, 1951. They were appointed under Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society (later CBI, now WorldVenture). After a year of language and tropical medicine study in Belgium, they arrived in the Belgian Congo in 1953. When post-colonial violence drove missionaries out of Congo, they ministered in Senegal 1962-1990.
Peg lived a life of service. She reached out to all in friendship, learning 5 foreign languages to communicate God's love to others.
She is survived by her six children: Connie (David) Befus, Donald (Patrice), Douglas (Bambi), David (Elizabeth), Cathy (Richard) Schultz and Daniel (Esther).
She has sixteen grandchildren: Rebeca and Jonathan; Elaina and Jordan; Scott, AJ and Aubrey; Shandra, Michelle, and Laina; Anna and Amy; Luke, Joel, Caleb and Zack. She has eleven great-grandchildren: Valerie, Theo and Miranda; Eleanor and Imogen; Hadassah, Talitha and Dateah; Olivia and Cyprian; Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Penney (1991). In 2005 she married Warren Hopeman. She suffered a severe stroke in July 2012 and was cared for by Warren until he passed away (2013).
Private interment will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 14 at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Drive, in Carol Stream, IL. A reception will follow.
