Obituary

Magdalena Olga Burke, Oma as most knew her, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday October 24th at the age of 94 years.

Born in Zarnov, Czechoslovakia, Oma and her family migrated to Austria where they endured the harsh reality of WW2. Oma arrived in New York Harbor on January 26th, 1950 to begin a new life. She married Harry William Burke, eventually settling in the Mid-West to build a family of her own.

Oma was wonderfully devoted to her husband and her three sons, the late Mark (Sara), James and Michael (Donna). She was a loving Oma to her 7 grandchildren, the late Karl, Stephen (Mara), Eric, Leah, Michael, Chiara (Matt) and Natalie (Michael). Oma was thrilled to eventually become a great-grandmother to her 6 great-grandchildren, Cade, E.J., Piper, Sloane, Harper and Blake.

Oma was well liked and respected by her peers. She was strong willed, independent and kind. Oma was worldly, spoke multiple languages and had a German accent you could cut with a knife. She had a refined ear for amazing Classical Music and enjoyed traveling abroad. When family and friends would gather, Oma would rarely turn down the opportunity to enjoying a cold beer with the ones she loved and would regularly "prost" to health and happiness.

Oma was known for her love of family and she always welcomed us with open arms. Holidays, birthdays and reunions were some of Oma's favorite times simply because we were together.

Oma was a devoted Catholic, who's faith was strong. She led by example and never let us forget how important it is to love one another.

Although Oma is no longer with us in person, she will always be with us in our hearts. Watching over us in heaven alongside Grandpa Harry, Auntie, Uncle Mark and Karl.

Private services and interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery in DesPlaines, Illinois. Friends may watch a livestream of the service on Friday, October 30 at 11:00 by clicking on this link: https://youtu.be/9UvsqGPZ0Fw .

Memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 1430, Cincinnati, OH 45250.

Prayer: May the Lord accept you into the gates of heaven and may you find peace and tranquility in his kingdom. Watch over us and keep us safe from harm. Help us to be patient and good and to always show our love and compassion toward one another. You will be missed but never forgotten, for you are forever in our hearts.
Im Namen des Vaters, des Sohnes und des Heiligen Geistes
Amen
