Mae Jo Tucker, age 80, a longtime resident of Wheaton, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Victory Centre in Bartlett, Illinois. She was born December 24, 1933 in West Point, Nebraska to Gayle and Eunice Washburn.
After graduating from high school in West Point, she took classes to become a telegraphic equipment operator. While working at United Airlines, she met Paul Tucker. They were married on May 20, 1959 and became residents of Glen Ellyn, where their three children were born. Mae Jo was involved in the PTA and the Glen Ellyn Garden Club. After moving to Wheaton, she became an active supporter and participant in 4-H, as well as her church--Countryside Chapel in Glen Ellyn. She was also a well-loved local Avon representative.
Mae Jo enjoyed multiple trips to Hawaii, the last one in 2012. She loved gardening, flower arranging, her book club, and her home decor reflected her interests. A very giving person, she served in PADS at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church. She enjoyed singing and was an active member in choir at the church throughout her life.
She is survived by three children, Jeff (Ramona, grandchild Kayla) Tucker of West Chicago, Cheryl (Jason, grandchild Sophie) Dollas of Carol Stream, and Craig Tucker of Hanover Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, her parents, and one brother, Gayle "Fuzzy" Washburn, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18, at 3:00 p.m. at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, 277 Hawthorne St. in Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.
