Mae Ann Peterson, nee Willman, age 93, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Wynscape Nursing & Rehabilitation in Wheaton, IL at the age of 93 with her family at her side.
Mae is survived by her son, Ronald (Debra) of Wilmette, IL, her daughter, Elaine Sweas, of Wheaton, IL, her grandchildren Kristen Sweas (Eric) Fenton of Chicago, Robert Sweas of St. Charles, IL, Karin Sweas (Ross) Morrison of Long Beach, CA, Emily Peterson of Alexandria, VA, Jennifer (Dave) Gruner of Nashville, TN, and four great-grandchildren, Juliana and Paulie Sweas, and Natalie and Asher Fenton. Also, Marjorie Carlson of Northbrook, IL, who was like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert E. Peterson, son-in-law Paul Sweas, and brothers Wallace Willman and Rudy Willman.
Mae was born on March 7, 1921 in Flint, MI to Gustaf and Augusta Willman. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1939 and Flint Junior College in 1941 with a degree in Business. She married Robert Peterson on June 7, 1952 in Detroit, MI where they met before moving to IL. She was a full time mother and homemaker who loved her family. Her faith was always an integral part of her life and had been an active member of Hinsdale Covenant Church, Glen Ellyn Covenant Church, and Harbert Community Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees. She spent many happy years raising her children in Wheaton, IL before retiring to Sawyer, MI, where they made many new memories with their expanded family. She and Robert spent their final retirement years together at Luther Village in Arlington Heights. After her husband's death, Mae relocated to The Meadows of Glen Ellyn to be closer to her daughter. During her life, Mae was an avid gardener and had the notoriety of growing African violets that bloomed year round. Mae was a life-long student of the Bible who loved connecting current events with Biblical prophesies.
The family is grateful and would like to thank those who visited, sent cards, and reached out in friendship to Mae and her family during her long illness. She was dearly loved and is greatly missed. A private memorial service and burial will be held in Three Oaks, MI to honor her memory.
