Obituary

Madeline LaPorte Edgerly, age 95, a longtime resident of Rockford, IL, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 in Naperville, IL. She was born February 15, 1915 in Chicago, IL.

Madeline was a volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford, IL, where she was known for more than 20 years as "The Hug Lady". She was also voted Senior of the Year, a title she earned by donating more than 9700 hours of volunteer work.

She is survived by her three children, Barbara (Richard) Haymaker of Glen Ellyn, IL, Beverly (the late William) Lemke of Camdenton, MO, and Nancy (the late James) Armstrong of Plainfield, IL; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.

A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10 a.m., at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to St. Anthony Hospital Cancer Care Center, 5666 E State St., Rockford, IL 61108-2425.
