Lyndell R Rhoades, of Carol Stream, formerly of Quincy, IL, passed away April 3, 2015. His wife of 67 years, the former Charlotte E Martin, survives him. He is also survived by his children, Dwight (Sherri) Rhoades, Marsha Grimstad (Dave Pavach) and Cindy (the late Dan) Keck. He also leaves five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Rhoades retired after 30 years service as a teacher and administrator in public schools. He was an avid fisherman in earlier years, and enjoyed golf in his later years.
Mr. Rhoades was a veteran of the Second World War, during which he was assigned as a radioman to various Naval Aviation patrol squadrons. He was a member of the American Legion, and often played Taps for veterans' funeral services in Adams and Pike counties. He was a member of the Payson Masonic Lodge, Ansar Shrine, the Quincy High Twelve club, and former member of Kiwainis. In retirement, Charlotte and Lyndell traveled throughout the United States to work on construction projects for Habitat for Humanity
Services will be held at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N Main St., Wheaton, on April 11 at 1:00 PM. A memorial service will also be held May 2 at 1:00 at the Beverly United Methodist church, Beverly, IL. Interment will follow at the Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, IL.
Memorials directed to Shriners Children's Hospital, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd, St Louis, MO 63131 will be appreciated.
