Luz Cruz, loving mother and friend, went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2021.

She is survived by her son George (Debbie), and her daughters Liliana and Tamara, who recently lost her loving husband Jeff Mason.

Luz is also survived by her grandchildren, Cole (Kristen), Kasi, Marianna (Shaun), Kyle, Samuel and Esme; and her great-grandchildren Josephine, Eleanor, Graeme and Ellis.

She will be missed by her loving sisters Manola and Magaly, with who she had a close bond her entire life.

Luz was born in Cuba in 1936 to her parents Mercedes and Manuel. She graduated from Universidad de la Habana.  As a young woman, she met Jose Cruz. They fell in love and married in 1955. In 1962 Luz and Jose immigrated to the United States and raised their family in Chicago. Luz lived in the Chicago area for the rest of her life, a city that she loved.

Luz was a kind wife and mother. She and Jose loved to travel and went on many trips to Europe, and explored the United States on road trips with their children. Luz loved life. The death of her husband Jose in 1992 was a sad and heavy loss after 37 years of marriage. She learned to become stronger as she made a new life for herself, in her later years. Her life's journey was one of love, bravery and persistence.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10am at Grace Church of Dupage, 27W344 Galusha Ave., Warrenville, IL 60555.  A livestream is available here: https://www.gracedupage.org/special-event-stream

Masks will be required throughout the service. A receiving line will follow the service in an outdoor area of the church.
