Obituary for Luella W. Stutzman
Luella W. Stutzman, age 94, a resident of Batavia, IL., passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Delnor Hospital in Batavia. She was born January 7, 1927 in Elida, Ohio to Henry and Lucy Tucker.
Luella was born at home and as it appeared she was not thriving, a medicinal shot of whiskey was given her. She uttered her first cry but not her last. She loved music and singing and learned to yodel by listening to the radio, or teaching herself to play the guitar while never having learned the notes. She and her sisters sang together, even a time or two on the radio. Music was something she always carried with her and shared with her children as well as her church, or anyplace she was asked to play.
Luella was a simple country girl but the love of her life, Milton, brought her on many an adventure, travelling the world over, including a trip in the 1970's down Old Rt. 66 in an old garbage truck (long story).
Old Time radio never lost its popularity with her and she passed the joy of listening on to all of her grandchildren. Even the youngest of them know who all the old stars are.
Luella loved to crochet blankets for weddings and new babies. She also loved to sew, especially the perfect pajama.
Laughter was a treasured gift and something all of her children inherited from her. She was simple as was her faith; something most dear to her and of great importance to hand on to her children and grandchildren. She leaned on God and prayed fervently for us all and for this we are deeply grateful.
Luella is survived by her children, Lorraine V. Tash, Mary E. Burlingame, Nancy E. Hougham, Barbara J. Dietz, John M. Stutzman, Betty L. Parquette, and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton B. Stutzman, and her son-in-law, Randall S. Hougham.
A graveside service will be held at Pike Mennonite Church Cemetery, Elida, Ohio.
