Lucille Jeanette O'Hair Montgomery, neé Amy Margaritte O'Hair, age 100, a resident of Carol Stream, IL and formerly of Sarasota, Florida for almost 40 years, died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Johnson Healthcare Center at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 18, 1914 to John C. and Ethel O'Hair.
Lucille married Joseph Gwinn Montgomery on June 5, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1936 with a bachelor's degree in Education and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937 with a master's degree in Residual Neural-Muscular Hypertension.
Lucille was a professional educator for more than 33 years, teaching in junior high and high schools in Illinois, Utah, Georgia, Texas, and Florida before becoming a guidance counselor and public school administrator. One of her favorite roles in education was as a specialist in scheduling public schools. Her pioneering work in scheduling schools using computers became the Florida state standard when computer-scheduling was introduced there. At the end of her education career she was a principal and a teacher at an elementary school in Sarasota, Florida. Following her career in education she became a Realtor and was active in Real Estate in Florida for 14 years before moving with her husband and her dog to Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream in December, 1992.
Lucille lived in B-106 from December, 1992, until October, 2005, when she moved to Johnson Assisted Living, Unit 204. She moved to Fairfax Place, Unit 242, in February, 2014, where she lived until her death. Lucille scheduled the volunteers in the Windsor Park Gift shop from 1993 to 2004. Lucille's father was the pastor of the North Shore Church. Lucille and her husband were members of the Episcopal Church most of their lives.
She is survived by her son, Joel Robert Montgomery, of Batavia, Illinois. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joseph Gwinn Montgomery on May 30, 1995, her parents, and five brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at Windsor Park Manor. Please check back for details.
Burial will be at the Buffalo Springs Burying Ground outside of Danville, Kentucky.
