Obituary

Louise Nygren, a resident of Windsor Park, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1st in Carol Stream, IL, at the age of 92. She was born November 9th, 1923 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Louise attended Southern Wesleyan University, Taylor University, and graduated from Houghton College with a B.A. in English and later from Ball State University with an M.A. in elementary education. Louise spent her life serving others, both as a Pastor's & professor's wife and as an elementary school teacher. She was known throughout her circles as an amazing cook and especially for her signature homemade apple pie, made from apples grown in the backyard.  Louise would often cook meals and serve pie and cookies for church events, family, friends, and Taylor students.  She loved her family beyond words, especially her husband, Herb, of 65 years.

Louise also had a strong faith and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Even though she had Alzheimer's disease, she knew every verse of every Christian hymn by heart – to the amazement of many.

We thank God for her legacy of a strong faith and love of family.

She is survived by her husband Dr. E. Herbert Nygren, sons Herb (Annie) Nygren, Jr., and Steve (Katherine) Nygren. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Erik (Kaitlin) Nygren, Zachary Nygren, Jenna Nygren and Maxwell Nygren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Willard and Mammie Whitton, brother Carl (Evelyn) Whitton, sisters Mary Alice (Francis) Fishburne and Dorothy Whitton.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Windsor Park with the Rev. Thomas Peterson officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Windsor from 10:00 until 10:30 a.m. In addition a visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL.
