Obituary

Louise T. Larsen-Tvihaug Groe, age 92, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and longtime resident of Wheaton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Louise was born on April 24, 1933, in Chicago to Louis and Theodora Larsen.  She grew up in Chicago where she thrived in school, activities, a close group of friends, and her church.  She was active in her youth group and started working as a switchboard operator for the phone company.  She also volunteered and was an official Ground Observer Corp plane spotter for the U.S. Air Force.

Louise met the love of her life, Edward Groe, at a church social.  They were married on April 20, 1957, and built a beautiful life together, moving to Wheaton in 1963 when Ed accepted a position at Wheaton College.  With 4 young children, and a fifth shortly following, Louise remained home to care for and raise the growing family.  She dedicated herself completely to being a wonderful and loving mother and still squeezed in time to sell Avon products.  When the children were all in school, Louise herself accepted a job at Wheaton College in the Education Dept. as a secretary.  Her skills were quickly recognized and she also began student counseling.

Louise enjoyed the hand crafting arts such as crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and quilting.  She often made clothing for her children and herself.  She was an avid baker and especially loved baking the traditional treats of Norway. She and Ed cherished their Norwegian heritage, starting a deep dive into genealogy and together they enjoyed memorable trips to Norway, visiting distant relatives, and deepening their appreciation for their family's roots.

Louise's Christian faith was the foundation of her life.  She attended Wheaton Bible Church, where she found strength, purpose, and a close-knit community of friends.

Above all, Louise was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She is survived by her children: Susan (Robert) Beck, David (Vicki) Groe, Steve Groe, Timothy (Lesley) Groe, and Lynnette (Donald) Pokorny.  She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and a great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
