Lorraine Thompson, age 75, a resident of Wheaton for 36 years, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 29 after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born July 14, 1935 in Holyoke, MA to Francis and Agnes Fitzpatrick.
Early in her career she worked as public relations director for Bristol Hospital in Bristol, Connecticut. Lorraine worked for the National Association of Evangelicals, Wheaton College and until last year at Westbridge at Wyndemere. She volunteered with Village Church tutoring and mentoring Afghani refugees and worked with her daughter at Blue Sky Inn, a Chicago job training program.
She loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, and watching the Bears.
She is survived by two daughters, Joy (Stephen) Stroup of Plymouth, MN and Lisa Thompson of Chicago, three grandchildren, Tara, Liam and Harrison, three sisters, Ellen Talmadge of Chester, CT, Mary Breckbill of Chester, CT and Kathryn Fitzpatrick of Wheaton and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Francis Fitzpatrick and a sister, Elizabeth Collins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31 at 3:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 3:00. Interment will be in Bristol, CT.
