Lorraine "Susie" (nee DeRoo) Dusek, age 88, a longtime Wheaton resident, passed away Wednesday, February 23rd at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield after a brief illness. She was born March 28, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Marie (nee Jacobsen) DeRoo. She married her high school sweetheart Charles Dusek on May 17, 1943 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton.
Lorraine, along with her husband, the late Charles, were founders and owners of Wheaton Radio from 1945 until their retirement in 1979. Afterwards, they enjoyed traveling together until his death January 4, 1996. One of their favorite trips was to Michigan to pick blueberries. They also went to Las Vegas, California and cruised to Alaska.
Lorraine enjoyed helping to organize her 50th Wheaton High School reunion. She researched family genealogy off and on since 1944, going back to 1672 in Czechoslovakia for the Duseks and the late 1700s for the DeRoo side. Her greatest love was for her extended family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her many, dear lifelong friends.
Lorraine is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Donald) McCluskey of Winfield and Joan (Charles) Werth of McHenry; five grandchildren, Michelle (Dana) Henry, Donald (Jennifer) McCluskey, Heather Bohac, Michael McCluskey, and Kristoffer (Rebecca) Werth; six great-grandchildren, Patrick and Tommy Bohac, Eleanor and Carolyn Henry, Lauren McCluskey, and Trey Werth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Charlie; her two brothers, Leonard and Floyd DeRoo.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 27th from 2 – 6 p.m. and Monday, February 28th from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, Illinois. Interment at Wheaton Cemetery.
