Obituary

Born the middle child of five siblings in South Vietnam, Long had proudly served his country and alongside US Forces as a Sergeant Major and Chief Nurse of the South Vietnamese Army for 15 years.

In the late fall of 1978, in search of a better life while risking life & death, Long, his wife, and their 2 children bravely escaped their war-torn country in a 25 foot boat along with 70 other people. After being lost at sea for 4 days, his family finally made it to Malaysia. They endured life on a refugee camp for over 3 months until they were sponsored by the generous Moore Family of Wheaton.

Long was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, My Huong; his older sister; and his older and younger brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife, Phan Dinh Huynh; his daughter, Michele Feely (David); his son, Michael (Tami); his grandchildren, Bridget, Dylan, Evangeline, Keira, and Caden; his younger sister, Hanh Tran (Sanh); as well as several dozen nieces and nephews. Long became a beloved patriarch of the Huynh, Tran, and Vuong families as well as a deeply respected foster father to many people.

A devout Buddhist, Long was deeply respected and loved within the Vietnamese and Buddhist community. His kindness, guidance, humility, grace and great love will be remembered always.

A Buddhist ceremony will be held on Friday, September 5th, 2025 at 3 pm followed by Visitation services from 5-8 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home in Carol Stream, Illinois.
