Lois L. Weyhe, age 94, a resident of the Holmstad in Batavia and formerly a longtime resident of Wheaton, died suddenly on Saturday, November 1 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. She was born on February 11, 1920, the seventh of ten children to Louis and Gertrude Weyhe.
Lois grew up in Highland, Indiana and graduated from Griffith High School in 1938. She then graduated from Practical Bible Training School and then from Bryan College. She earned a Masters degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. After college she taught English and served as registrar at Bryan College.
In 1957, she moved to Wheaton and began working as Associate Director of Admission at Wheaton College, where she was recognized as a strong but fair leader. She traveled extensively for the college and retired in 1985.
She enjoyed music, especially Bach. She sang in the choir at Wheaton Christian Reformed Church and played the piano. She taught a women's weekly Bible class. An avid reader, she would read two newspapers daily and read an untold number of books.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis (C.W.) Lane; her sister-in-law, Ruth Weyhe; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend and co-worker Beatrice Batson. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ira Weyhe, Luella Young, Dolly Wolff, Irwin Weyhe, Dorothy Shoemaker, Marian Blink, Laverne Weyhe and Louis Weyhe.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Calumet, Indiana.
