Obituary

Lois Barbara Pearson Smith, a longtime resident of Carol Stream, Illinois, passed away on January 30, 2023. She was born on August 12, 1942 to Harold and Bertha (nee Alberts) Pearson in Oak Lawn, Illinois. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.

Lois grew up in Oak Lawn and was very involved in her neighborhood church. She sang in the young persons' choir and taught Sunday school. In 1959, she drove to Wheaton with some of her friends to attend a Billy Graham Crusade. She was 17 years old when she accepted Christ as her Savior at that conference. In 1960, she began her career in clerical work at St. Bernards Hospital in Chicago. She was in charge of the tumor clinic. In 1968, Lois went on a blind date to a wedding with a young man with an amazing pompadour, Dwight Smith. In the summer of 1969, Lois and Dwight were married. They would soon move from Chicago to the west suburbs, Glendale Heights. For the next 17 years, Lois and Dwight "Smitty", would raise three children. In 1987, Lois and Smitty moved the family to Carol Stream, where they lived together until the summer of 2022. She really enjoyed working for DuPage Medical group in clerical for the Diagnostic Imaging suite. She worked there for 16 years before retiring.

After her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, Lois resided at Silverado Memory Care center in Saint Charles, Illinois until her passing in January 2023.

Lois loved being with her girlfriends. She enjoyed her evenings with her "Card club" girlfriends and nights of playing Bunco, especially playing "Crazy Bunco". Her favorite memories of her friends were the "girls trips" to Lake Geneva and other places.

Her other favorite activities included playing marbles and Sequence with her sister and cousin and with Smitty. She enjoyed having dinner on Sunday nights with church friends. Her personal library of 500+ books is evidence of her love for reading.

Her grandchildren were very important to her and she loved spending time as a family. All holidays and birthdays were celebrated at the home of Lois and Smitty. She loved to drive everywhere she went with Smitty or with her friends.

Lois was very involved with her church, Compass Church of Wheaton (formally Wheaton Evangelical Free Church). She was a deaconess for many years, as well as a Stephen's Minister.
