Lois Aldene
Kaylor Skarin
August 12, 1921 – October 10, 2020
Lois Aldene Kaylor Skarin was born on August 12, 1921 in Argyle, Iowa. She was the daughter of John Henry Kaylor and Minnie Marie (Seward) Kaylor. First and foremost, Lois was a born again Christian who followed her Savior throughout her life. She loved Jesus and notably conducted her life in serving her family and others.
As a child, Lois lived in Iowa where she eventually attended and graduated from Cornell College. There she met G. Homer Skarin, and they married on August 24, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa while Homer was home on leave from the South Pacific.
Eventually settling in Arlington, Virginia, Lois and Homer built a happy life together raising their four children. It was a lively household, and Lois was a wonderful homemaker as she provided support to her husband and children. She was an especially good cook, and many were blessed by her skills in this arena. Homer and Lois were involved with their local church and were saved by God's grace through the ministry of a lay evangelistic group who came to the area and presented the gospel. After Homer retired in 1977, Lois and Homer were busy grandparents, frequently traveling to Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Washington and Europe to visit and to help with their children and grandchildren.
In 1993, Homer and Lois left Virginia to move to Wheaton, Illinois to be close to their son, James, and his family as well as Homer's brother, Bob, and his family. Spending time with family and friends and serving alongside her husband through the Gideons International, Lois was blessed with many happy years in their new Midwest home. Eventually, Homer and Lois moved to Windsor Park where Lois lived for over 20 years and was lovingly cared for as her health became fragile.
Lois enjoyed a long and full life, surviving her husband of 68 years, Gilbert Homer Skarin, her son, Marcus Seward Skarin, and her brother, Lynn Edward Kaylor. She is survived by three of her children, Robert Mark (Ellen) Skarin, Janie (Paul) Waters, and James (Linda) Skarin along with sisters-in-law Marquetta Bruce and Muriel Skarin, 12 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She passed from this life into eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ on October 10, 2020 in Carol Stream, Illinois. An outdoor service and burial will be at the family plot in the Batavia West Side Cemetery.
For those of you joining us remotely, here is a link to Lois's favorite hymn, Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross, which will be sung at the conclusion of the service:
