IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois A.
Arosen
April 3, 1931 – July 17, 2025
On July 17, Lois "Snooky" Arosen was welcomed home and reunited with her beloved husband, Gil. Born April 3, 1931, to Edward and Ethel, Snooky grew up in the city of Chicago and attended First Evangelical Free Church (Summerdale Free). The church was started by a group of Swedish immigrants and initially met in her grandfather's living room.
Snooky met the love of her life, Gil, in 1948, and married him on October 3, 1953. They shared 63 years of marriage together, raising three sons, Bob, Ron, and Randy, in Arlington Heights. They were active members of Mount Prospect Bible Church, where Snooky loved and cared for people through multiple ministries. Many remember Snooky as their fellow choir member, devoted Sunday school department leader/teacher, or as a wonderful hostess. Later in life, Gil and Snooky attended First Baptist Church of Indian Rock. They loved that church and their Sunday School class. For the last 10 years, Snooky never missed an online service or event. She regularly called friends and loved ones to ensure they felt cared for and remembered, a loving task at which she succeeded greatly - even in her last months.
Snooky was very social, enjoying any excuse to go out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner with family and friends. She said her favorite food was "anything I didn't have to cook." Snooky was famous for many dishes (her rice pudding was always devoured at MPBC potlucks), but her Swedish pancakes were the family favorite. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gobbled them up by the dozen. Most "pancake mornings" turned into eating competitions. She loved sweets of all kinds, especially hot fudge sundaes and cookies - she never skipped dessert.
Snooky went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Her attention to detail and ability to perfectly plan a gathering was unmatched and truly made her the hostess with the mostest. From colorful sugar rimmed cups to everyone's favorite beverage in the refrigerator, Snooky's intentionality and love for others was truly a gift. No Arosen family gathering was complete without a game of JINGO around the dining room table - a tradition that continues to this day. Snooky was an avid game player, spending many afternoons and evenings playing Rummy, Rook, Hand and Foot, or other favorites with her friends, and was even known to set up carnival games with prizes for her grandchildren in the backyard.
Snooky loved Hallmark movies and all things Christmas, but most of all, Snooky loved her family. She raised each of them to know and follow her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed her love of the Lord and the joy of serving Him to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Snooky is survived by her three sons, Bob (Charmaine) Arosen, Ron (Holly) Arosen, and Randy (Eileen) Arosen; her beloved "punkins" (her grandchildren), Lindsay (AJ) Loredo, Victoria (Dan) Basinger, David (Kristin) Arosen, Kyle (Sarah) Arosen, Melanie (Ryan) Gallagher, Stephanie Arosen, Callie (Sam) Strasser, and Cayla (Cole) Mizel; Great Grandchildren Elianna, Gabriela, and Antonio Loredo; Wesley and Bradley Basinger; Isabel and Evelyn Arosen; Keely Rae Gallagher; Grayson and Charli Arosen, Phinehas Strasser, and River Mizel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gil, her parents Edward and Ethel Johnson, her sister Marion Bookland, and her brother Glenn Johnson. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Indian Rocks Christian School Athletic Fund in the name of Gil and Snooky Arosen would be appreciated. Donations can be made online at
