Lloyd J. Gorence, age 80, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Monday, August 9, 2010 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born May 5, 1930 in Eveleth, MN.
In high school Lloyd was nicknamed, Caesar, a name that stayed with him for the rest of his life. He started selling automobiles at age 17 and worked his way though college selling sewing machines, vacuum cleaners and clothing directly to the consumer. After graduation he did his time in the Army, serving in the Korean War. Upon his return, he taught school and served as a high school football coach. He then received a Master's Degree in Merchandising from the University of Pittsburgh. The last 30 years he owned and operated Van Dock in West Chicago, IL. He was known as a man who always thought of others before himself.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen; two sons, Joseph (Lil) of Wheaton, IL, and John (Jodie) of Lakeville, MN; his daughter, Jane (Lee) Wayne of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Joylyn, J.P., Skyler, and Shannan; and two brothers, Don (Shirley) of CA, and Robert (Sandy) of Jacksonville, FL.
Services and interment are private.
