Linda Lewis' Obituary
Funeral services for Linda Christine Carper Lewis, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Wheaton Bible Church, 27w500 North Avenue, West Chicago with Rev. Gary Dausey officiating. Interment will be in Wheaton Cemetery following the services. Visitation for Linda will be held Thursday, July 1 from 5:00 until 8:00 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
She was born on April 7, 1922, in Martinsville IL and died, June 28, 2010, at her home in Wheaton Oaks. She loved growing up in the small town of Martinsville and had a very happy childhood as the only child of Everett & Ida Carper. While attending Wheaton College she began corresponding with Lowell Dean Lewis, a
serviceman, who had also attended Wheaton. Linda and Lowell were married on June 18, 1946 for over 54 joyful years.
Linda's greatest joy was found in her family. She spent countless hours seeing to everyone's needs, having the whole family over for meals, volunteering in the schools, baby-sitting for grandchildren, and visiting with great-grandchildren. She loved babies and children! Beyond her family, Linda had a generous heart for hosting and supporting missionaries around the world.
Linda was a devoted Christian and served faithfully at Wheaton Bible Church for over 65 years. She was a prayer warrior, Deaconess, and Sunday School teacher for 3 year olds for more than 25 years. For many newcomers, Lowell & Linda were the first to visit and welcome them to the church. Linda enjoyed visiting and encouraging new moms.
She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Ida Carper and her husband Lowell D. Lewis. Surviving are her children, Larry (Brenda) Lewis of Colorado, Lee (Nancy) Lewis of Wheaton, Lynette (Max) McGowan of Colorado, Louanne (Mark) Irving of Wheaton; grandchildren, David (Emily) Lewis, Daniel Lewis, Brittany (John) Fellowes, Brooke (Marcus) Malcolm, Jonathan, David and Christine Irving; and was the proud great-grandmother of Jackson, Zachary and Gracie Lewis, James, Stephen and Annie Fellowes and Jillian & Claire Malcolm.
