Obituary

Linda Lea Kaufmann, age 83, a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 15, 2024, passing peacefully at home. Born on October 31, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of Linden and Mary Irvin.

Linda's early years were spent in South Bend, where she graduated from high school. She pursued further education at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. It was during her time in Chicago that she met Roy Kaufmann at a Lutheran Church group gathering. They married on April 20, 1963, and together they built a beautiful life in Wheaton, raising two daughters and becoming active members of St. John Lutheran Church.

Linda's professional life included roles at the 18th Judicial Circuit Court Clerk's office and the law office of Peregrine Stime, where she worked as a legal secretary. These positions were taken on as her daughters grew, in part to support their passion for ballet.

A woman of remarkable talents, Linda was an exceptionally gifted artist and craftsperson. Her artistic prowess spanned a variety of media, with a particular fondness for creating antique reproduction porcelain dolls, Ukrainian folk art eggs, and hand crafted miniatures. Her expertise extended to the fabric arts, including weaving, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Linda's creativity never waned with age. She authored a book on miniatures in her younger years, and in her 70's she wrote a novel.

In addition to her artistic talents, Linda was a skilled musician, adept at playing the piano, French horn, and several folk instruments. She was a deeply devoted Christian who loved the Bible and particularly cherished the words of Jesus. Her deep and genuine faith was evident in her fluency with the scriptures, often quoting passages from Genesis to Revelation. Linda also loved the fellowship of The JOY Group at St. John Lutheran Church.

Linda found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, often playing video games with her daughter and granddaughter. Her family was the centerpiece of her life.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Roy; her daughters, Karman (Dana) Morey of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Nancy (Tom) Boos of Columbia, Missouri; her adored granddaughter, Elizabeth Boos; her sister, Nancy Gamble; her brother-in-law, James Schmidt; and her nieces and nephews, Michael and Gary Gamble, Julie (Bob) Moedt, and Michael (Mary) Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Linden and Mary; her brother-in-law, Ron Gamble; her niece, Sue Gamble; and her sister-in-law, June Schmidt.

A visitation will be held on June 22, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton, where a  funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The Interment is private, and will take place at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
