Lillian V. Sauter, age 79, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, and formerly of Wheaton, died Thursday, March 12, at the Johnson Medical Center at Windsor Park. She was born on April 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward and Anna Valentine.
Lillian was a graduate of Kensington High School in Philadelphia where she learned to be an A-1 secretary. On January 27, 1951 she married Raymond Sauter in Philadelphia. They moved to Wheaton, IL in 1965 when Ray was transferred with Sears to Chicago.
She was an executive secretary who worked for Wheaton College Alumni Office, College Church in Wheaton, Pioneer Clubs, Ken Taylor at Tyndale House Publishing, the IL Tollway Authority, and Keenyville Bible Church. She was a member of College Church in Wheaton for 21 years.
In 1978 she graduated from the Moody Bible Institute Evening Bible School. After Ray retired in 1990, they volunteered with Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP), where they traveled more than four months a year serving missions work. In 2004 they moved to Windsor Park Manor where she played in the handbell choir, sang in the Chorale and the Treble Clefs. She was also a charter member of the Red Hat Society at Windsor Park. She enjoyed arts and crafts and could sew anything. She enjoyed playing the piano and cooking.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Raymond, three children, Raymond E. (Kay) Sauter of St. Charles, Dr. Karen (Paul) Wrobbel of Fox River Grove, and Eric (Marybeth) Sauter of Winfield, ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Kudla, Jonathan (Christen) Hulgan, Jason (Christie) Hulgan, Cheri Sauter, Elizabeth (Jon) Gorden, Rebekah (Alexander) Stathakis, and Carl, Matthew, Torrey and Krista Sauter, seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Edward W. Valentine of Raeford, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother and one sister.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, from 2 until 7 p.m at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 15, at 2:00 P.M. at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Dr., in Carol Stream. Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
