Obituary

Lillian Heulitt Evensen, age 96, went peacefully home to her Lord on September 13, 2020. Lillian was born in 1924 to Ralph and Ruth Rennard in Elizabeth, NJ. The family lived on the Jersey Shore during most of Lillian's school years. The children recall gathering driftwood in the ocean to fuel their home during the Depression, as their father's work schedule on the Jersey Central Railroad was reduced. Lillian graduated from Point Pleasant Beach HS in 1942, where she played basketball and softball. She loved to swim in the ocean and hang out on the beach. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1944.

Lillian met a returning veteran, Howard Heulitt, on a 'Word of Life' boat ride in the Hudson River in 1945, and they were married in 1946. They had two children, Kenneth and Ruth. They lived in New Jersey and the Chicago, IL area, where Lillian taught second grade Sunday School for many years. Howard died in 1972. In 1986, Lillian married her second husband, Hans Evensen. They enjoyed their golden years together in Whiting, NJ. Hans died in 1999.

In the years after Hans death, Lillian moved to a wonderful senior community in Denver, CO near her daughter's family. The family and Lillian moved to Bend, OR, where she lived her final year in another loving senior community.

Lillian is survived by her two children, Ken (Sara) Heulitt and Ruth (Dan) Higgins, grandsons David (Kristin) and Jonathan (Paige) Higgins, and three great granddaughters, Kinley, Cora and Avery. Her sister Muriel Kerr, and brother Ralph Rennard, Jr, are also living. We all join in saying a loving farewell to a wonderful Mom, wife, sister and grandmother. She is 'face to face with Christ her Savior.'

There will be a graveside ceremony at the Wheaton Cemetery on Monday, September 28 at 2:00 pm, where Lillian will be laid to rest with her husband Howard. All are invited. The cemetery address is 1209 S. Warrenville Rd, Wheaton, IL. The extended family will have an online memorial gathering on Saturday, October 3 at 3:00 pm Central time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lillian's memory can be made to Moody Bible Institute (Memo – Lillian Evensen Memorial), 820 North LaSalle Street Chicago, IL 60610. Website is moodybible.org (Donate link upper right).
