Lester Lawrence Misch, most recently of Warrenville, Illinois, died November 19 at Wynscape Nursing Home in Wheaton. Son of Mildred H. and Alfred G. Misch, he was born in Chicago on March 30, 1923 and grew up in the McKinley Park neighborhood where he graduated from Harrison High School.
He served in Europe during WWII as a machine gunner with the 516th Field Artillery, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944-45. After the war he married his sweetheart Dorothy Misch and they had one daughter Dawn Laura (Ziemer). Les became a stationary engineer, eventually chief engineer of commercial buildings in downtown Chicago. A talented pianist and painter, he fostered the arts among his family and friends. He also loved to travel, particularly to the Moab area of Southeastern Utah where he and Dorothy ultimately retired. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1992 and his sister Marilyn in 1999. After twenty-five years in the West, Lester returned to Illinois to spend the last five years with Dawn, her husband Raymond Ziemer, and grandsons Thomas and Matthew.
Lester is survived also by his brothers Ronald Misch and Earl McGarry, as well as loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
