Obituary

Leonard Timothy Mann, a resident of Covenant Living at Windsor Park in Carol Stream since 2004 and prior to that of Wheaton since 1962, died on September 24,2020 at the age of 95. He was born in Jersey City, N.J., and after his marriage, resided in Kearny, Rutherford, and Ridgewood, N.J. His wife, Elizabeth Ryans Mann, of 52 years preceded him in death in 2004. Leonard is survived by three children, Elizabeth Neill Goodsell (Robert), Karen Leah Baareman (Robert) and Leonard Jeffrey Mann (Patty Klepack). He prayed daily for his nine grandchildren: Bradshaw, Bettsy (Wood), and Wade Goodsell; Jeffrey, Torrey, Garrett, and Trent Grossman; Kevin and Katie Mann. He had the joy of seeing his family expand to include nine great grandchildren.

Relocating to Wheaton in 1962, Leonard joined Maurice L. Rothschild Co. in Chicago as Visual Merchandising Director. In 1963 he accepted the position of Corporate Director of Visual Merchandising and Store Planning for Hartmarx Corporation's 250 specialty apparel stores nationwide. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army mechanized armored force. Leonard loved music and was a talented accordionist and pianist. His grandchildren were the beneficiaries of his creative woodworking projects. Leonard collected and restored antique reed organs for 25 years. He was instrumental in forming a new chapter of the Christian Businessmen's Committee in the Chicago loop, as well as teaching Christian education at Wheaton Bible Church for 27 years. Upon retirement in 1990, Leonard shared his faith weekly with juvenile residents at the Illinois Dept. of Corrections in St. Charles. He also was a faithful telephone volunteer for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Crusades. At Windsor Park he served the community in a lay chaplain role.

Leonard was a man of many talents and interests, but the overriding passion of his life was his devotion to Jesus Christ and his desire to point others to his Savior.
