Lawrence P. Melnick, age 78, a resident of Wheaton for over 40 years, died at home on Friday, October 8, 2010. He was born in Canada on March 18, 1932 to Peter and Barbara Melnick.
He grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada, where he excelled in track, hockey and was valedictorian of his high school class. On July 28, 1952 he married Elaine Prout. They had three children and then moved to Fargo, North Dakota in 1962. In 1967 they became US citizens. He worked in the automotive industry. In retirement he and his wife owned Olympic Dreams in Glen Ellyn, a skating shop.
He enjoyed music, sports, and most of all his family.
Lorne is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine, two daughters, Kim (John) Garrow of Wheaton and Nikki Melnick of Carol Stream, six grandchildren, Jack, Jenna and Jessa Garrow and Lauren (Juan) Jiminez, Tyler Melnick and Jason Melnick.
He was preceded in death by his son Gregory in 1975 and his parents.
Services will be held privately. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
