Obituary

LaVerne Jeanette Nystrom, age 91, a resident of the Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center in Rockford, died on Wednesday, May 23. She was born on October 31,1920 in Chicago to Enoch and Esther Pearson.

She grew up in Chicago and graduated from the Free Church Academy. On June 1,1940 she married Harry Nystrom. They lived in Chicago until moving to Bethany Beach, Michigan in 1982 and then moved to Rockford in 2003.

LaVerne was a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church in Chicago. She enjoyed traveling, visiting and helping friends and family, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lynn (Elden) Stromberg of Springfield, IL, Nancy (Jeffrey) Sheffield of Wayne, NJ and Jane (Gordon) Harbeck of Hanover Park, IL, seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Brad) Babcock, Kristin (Andy) Bargeron, David (Arlene) Stromberg, Matthew Sheffield, Joshua Harbeck, Beth (Adrian) Carrion and Sarah Harbeck, sister, Ruth Lindquist (Gordon), sister-in-law, Lois Pearson, brother-in-law, Jim Schweitzer, and many nieces and nephews.  She was "MorMor" to her six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Justin and Amanda Babcock, Ethan and Brady Carrion, and Sydney Bargeron.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harry, parents, one sister, June Schweitzer, and one brother, Roy Pearson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 North Alpine Road in Rockford. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service. Interment will be held privately.
