Lan Eng Oei, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022 at the age of 94. She is survived by her four children, Meike Uhler (Robert), Charles Oei (Tina Chase), Grace Twietmeyer (Jeff), and David Oei (Anna), along with eight grandchildren; Courtney, Jason, Michael, Brian, James, Steven, Melissa, and Owen.

She is preceded in death by her parents along with her husband, Dr. Tjien Oen Oei, her four siblings, and her grandson, Reed Oei.

Born in Indonesia, Lan married Tjien Oei in 1958, had two children, and immigrated to the United States in 1967, settling in Birmingham, Alabama. After having two more children, they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, living there for many years as their children grew up. They later moved to Wheaton, Illinois in 2014 in order to be closer to family in their senior years.

Lan had many interests during her long and full life, including sewing — being a professional seamstress in her early years in Indonesia — and she made many of her own clothes. She was a very devout Catholic, often lending her help to her parish by means of creating or preparing the priest's vestments. She was also a practitioner of Tai Chi, rising to the level of teacher of this practice in her senior years. Cooking was another favorite pastime — especially traditional Indonesian cooking which was a favorite family meal at many an Oei Christmas gathering.

But most of all, Lan's favorite lifetime activity was her large family. As young parents, Lan and her husband Tjien enjoyed the raising of their four children, later visiting their adult children in various cities, and then welcoming them and the grandchildren into their home in their later years. She very much loved her children and grandchildren, and they loved her.

Lan will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Lan's visitation and funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 27 at St. Michael Church, 310 S Wheaton Ave, Wheaton, IL 60187. The visitation is from 9:00-10:30am. The funeral Mass begins at 10:30am. The Mass will be live-streamed through this link: https://youtu.be/KWGSx_cwkUg. Interment will then follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
