Obituary

Kirsten June Frederick Fumagalli, age 36, a resident of Winfield, IL, went home to Heaven gaining victory over a courageous and valiant 27-day battle with colon cancer on Wednesday, March 14th. She took her final breath as her husband, Michael, of 9 years carried her over the threshold of their home.

Kirsten was born April 25, 1981 to her beloved parents Jan and Cindy Frederick at Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minnesota. She grew up an avid sports fan particularly focusing most attention on basketball, which she played collegiately at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota where she graduated from in 2003. Kirsten was also a talented musician learning the piano at the age of 5 from her mother and, eventually, blossoming into a very successful oboist. She came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at 8 years old and lived every day serving and praising God, even in trial and hardship.

Kirsten lived in service of others being avidly involved in church children's and worship ministries, as a camp counselor for inner city youth with Kids Across America, a camp counselor at Lake Owen, in several Habitat for Humanity trips, and as the Assistant Director of the Chicago chapter of M.E.N.D (Mommies Enduring Neonatal Death) serving grieving mothers following the loss of their children. She was always focused on loving other people right where they were and lived in a way that drew others closer to her, and subsequently, Christ.

She met the love of her life, her husband, Michael, at the University of Iowa in 2005 where she was completing her graduate assistantship in Athletic Training and Sports Management. Michael and Kirsten were married on July 5, 2008, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. They experienced the blessing of having children as well as the heartache of losing children during their lives together. Kirsten loved Michael and her children so completely that it left others in awe of how she served them as a wife and mother. One of her greatest passions was watching her son, Gable, play hockey as she enjoyed the thrills and anguish of being a goalie mom.

Kirsten is preceded in death by her daughter, Airrington Hope, as well as her maternal grandfather, Delmer Hegman, and paternal grandparents, Percy and Alyce Frederick. She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael, and two sons, Gabriel (Gable) Anson, 7, and Maverick Carver, 8 months, her parents Jan & Cindy Frederick (nee Hegman), brother Jeremiah Frederick, brother Kai (Trista) Frederick, her sister Anna (Jason) Pierce (nee Frederick), maternal grandmother June (Dick) Jensen, mother and father in law Mark and Maureen Fumagalli, brother and sister in law Matt and Mina Fumagalli, nephews Mathias Pierce, Josiah Pierce, Jameson Fumagalli, Luca Fumagalli, nieces Aeryn Frederick, Eliana Fumagalli, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Kirsten would not want you to purchase flowers. Instead, she would want you to make a contribution of eternal significance to Kids Across America or the Colorectal Cancer Alliance . In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions to these organizations in her loving memory.

A celebration of life service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17th at Crossroads Community Church with a visitation among family and friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. Crossroads Community Church is at 1N100 Gary Avenue, Carol Stream, IL (1 block north of Geneva Road). The service will be streamed live at: https://www.facebook.com/crossroads.church/?ref=bookmarks
