Obituary

Kenny Kett, age 95, a resident of Glen Ellyn, died Friday, August 21, 2015, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born January 12, 1920 in rural England to John and Ellen Kett.

Kenny grew up in Norfolk County, England where he became an accomplished soccer player and played professionally for Beccles Town, England. He married Iris Denny on January 24, 1942. In 1955, they and their three children emigrated to the United States and settled in the Chicago area where they had two more children.

He worked as a pipe fitter for Local #597 and helped to build the Sears Tower, O'Hare Airport, the Mobil Refinery in Joliet, and many Chicago area buildings. After retiring, he worked on the grounds crew at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn, a job he truly loved.

He is remembered as a proud American, great storyteller, a Chicago Bears fan, and a gardener who loved to grow roses. He loved a cup of tea, was an avid golfer, and he played in a British card club for over 40 years. He had a mathematical mind and a keen interest in politics. He was proud that he moved his family to America and how each of them realized the American Dream. He greatly enjoyed his family, especially playing games like dominos and cards with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Iris, five children, Terry (Marcia) Kett of Kingwood, TX, Carol (Richard) Clark of Clarkston, MI, Keo (Sonny) Kett-Conner of Cookeville, TN, Kendra Kett of Gurnee, and Kevin (Jeanice) Kett of Ft. Worth, TX, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in England and the U.S.
