Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Mason of Wheaton, Illinois passed away at the age of 96 on September 26th, 2018. He was born on October 5th, 1921 in Toledo, Iowa.

He was the son of Earl and Hazel Mason. Wayne graduated from Toledo High School in 1940, where he was active in track and football. Growing up in the country he helped his father train horses for racing in Iowa and the surrounding states. He had a great joy and pride being around horses. Wayne served his country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy 50th Seabees from 1942 to 1946. During the war he saw duty constructing docks and other facilities on the Pacific Islands of Tinian and Midway. In Recognition of his service Wayne participated in an Honor Flight from Chicago to Washington D.C. in the fall of 2017.

Wayne moved to the Chicago area in 1949 and resided in Wheaton since then. He had a long work career that ended in 2016. His Occupations included foundry quality control, bar tending, and real estate agent. Most notably, he drove School Buses until he was 88. He stayed hard at work in various jobs until the age of 94. He was also a huge fan of the Chicago Bears.

Wayne is survived by his daughter Pamela (Jonathan) Rudman of Maryland; his many nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his Wife Eleanor; his parents Earl and Hazel; his sisters Wanda Schoon, Shirley Rutledge, and brother Gerald Mason.

Services will be private. Interment Will take place at a later date.
