Keith Paul Johnson, age 66, a resident of the Wheaton area since his childhood except for his service in the Air Force, died Friday, December 19th in his residence in Carol Stream with his wife, Charita lovingly caring for him. Keith died of a massive heart attack while suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Keith was born May 5, 1942 in Indianapolis and moved to Wheaton several years later with his parents Paul and Delores Johnson.
Keith graduated from Wheaton Central High School and worked at Philadelphia College of the Bible prior to joining the Air Force. The majority of his military service was completed in Ipswich, England. Keith worked in the machine tool industry, grinding cutting tools for most of his career. He worked with his father at MC& M Tools in Wheaton for many years. He also trained in recreational therapy at the College of DuPage and worked as a security guard until retirement for medical reasons.
Keith enjoyed ceramic arts at College of DuPage, animals, fishing, and especially quiet outdoor sanctuaries such as the Morton Arboretum and Herrick Lake.
Keith is survived by his wife Charita Ola-Johnson, three children from his first marriage, Dawn, Keith Jr., and John, his brother Kent Johnson and his nephew Jeremiah (Keith helped Kent care for Jeremiah for several years after his mother Marilyn died), his sister Linda (Lon) Johnson Oury; nieces, April and Autumn Oury; and nephews, Andrew and Ryan Oury.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 26 at 1:00 PM at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton following a time of visitation with the family from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will be held Monday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery near Joliet at 11 a.m.
