Katie F. Don, a resident of Winfield, IL and previously Carol Stream, died March 3, 2010. She was born November 29, 1910 in Clark County, IL to Charlie and Nellie Lingafelter and was preceded in death by her husbands, David Rockwell and Thomas R. Don, along with 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her three beloved daughters, Dolores Ann Arlow (late Richard), Dorothy Lou Elliott (late Walter) and Orva Gail Gravenites (George). She will be missed dearly by her ten grandchildren, Walter Elliott (Nancy Broman), Thomas Gravenites, Katherine Doremus (Richard), Michael Gravenites (Debbie), Kevin Elliott (Diane), Diana DeMonde (Dennis), Erin Elliott, Gregory Gravenites, David Arlow, and Kelly Enright. She was Great-Grandmother to 17: Katie, Sara, Bonnie, Chad, Lauren, Brendan, Daniel, Robert, Eric, Matthew, Jason, Holly, Jackie, Julie, Kerry, Shawn, and Alexis and Great-Great-Grandmother to 8. Katie was a remarkable woman who raised her children as a single mother through the Depression, worked her whole life in many different jobs, and when she finally stopped working at the age of 82, volunteered in many organizations such as Outreach in Carol Stream and at Colony Park. She was a hero to all who knew her. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wheaton and was vital and active until her 97th year and an integral part of her families' lives. She will be missed tremendously, but we know she has gone to a much greater place – we have all been fortunate to have this amazing woman in our lives for so many years. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. She will be laid to rest at Olive Branch Cemetery in Martinsville, IL near her childhood home, with her ancestral family.
