Kathleen May Jones, nee Kamm, age 85, a resident of Wynscape, Wheaton, IL and formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL died peacefully Saturday, September 11, 2010. She was born on September 16, 1924 in Rockville, MO to James Caspar Kamm and Pearl (Griggs) Kamm.
Kathy was working as a secretary at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in Kansas City, MO when she went on a "set-up" date with US Navy Lt. JG Donald Everett Jones, also of Kansas City, whom she had barely known when they were both students at Central High School. They were married in 1947, and their close partnership continued for 63 years. She spoke of herself as "just a farm girl who got to shake hands with the Queen," referring to their seven-year posting in London, England during his 36-year career with Amoco Oil Company. She will be remembered as a warm and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, and wife, as well as an active member of her community and her church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. She was a past Illinois state secretary of the DAR.
Kathy is survived by her husband Don, who currently resides at Wynscape; her three sons, Gerald Everett Jones of Santa Monica, CA, James Wesley Jones, of Naperville, IL, and Darrell Gordon Jones of Chicago; six grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Jennifer Jones Garcia, Jessica Jones Moment, Zachary Jones, Tami Jones Martin, and Lauren Jones; three great-grandchildren, Evan Jones, Stella Jones, and Henry Moment; six nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, William Louis Kamm.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 12:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St, in Wheaton. Interment will be private.
