IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen
Burshtan
August 17, 1930 – February 14, 2023
Kathleen A. Burshtan, age 92, a resident of Wheaton, II died on February 14, 2023. She was born August 17, 1930 to Albert and Elsie (Willman) Meyer in Postville, IA. She is survived by her children David (Kathy) Burshtan and Tracy Gates, her grandchildren Morgan, Sydney, Lindsey and David Burshtan Jr., Bobby and Bailey Gates and her sister Gladys Medberry.
Kathleen grew up in Postville, IA, graduated from Postville High School in 1947, and later attended Luther College in Decorah, IA. In Postville Kathleen worked at the grocery store, movie theater and was the only teacher for grades K-12 in a one-room school house. It was when she was running the parts department at the local Ford dealership that she met Harold. Kathleen met Harold and it was love at first sight. After only dating for two weeks, they eloped and went on their honeymoon to Missouri in 1960.
Her husband's career took the family to Charles City, Fairfield and Waterloo, IA as well as Kenosha, WI. Kathleen's long-term roots were firmly grounded in Wheaton, IL beginning in the early 1970's. Kathleen's patience, love and guidance helped acclimate the family well. In Wheaton, Kathleen began her career at Whittier School as a teacher's aide. She found this very rewarding as she loved the children and also established many close friendships there.
Throughout her life, Kathleen was actively involved in the Lutheran Ministry. She made sure her children were confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church in Wheaton. During this time she was a regular at church and firmly believed in her commitment to the Lord. Kathleen had faith that his word was a guiding light as to how to live her life.
Later in life, Kathleen traveled with Harold and friends in Europe and Asia. She was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren's activities. This brought her to football, baseball, soccer, show choir, swimming, basketball, softball, track, tennis and badminton all over DuPage County. In Kathleen's free time she enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren, walking, cooking and decorating.
Kathleen was the best wife, mother, grandmother and sister that anybody could ever ask for. Her never-ending love, patience, concern for others, guidance, honesty and contagious laughter will never be forgotten. She will be missed by many and we look forward to seeing you in heaven Kathleen.
