Thanks to all of you who have expressed your sympathy.

A visitation was held in July, and now we have planned Julia's memorial service for 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, September 27th, at the Picnic Pavilion of Cantigny Park .

To get to this event, use the entrance on Shaffner Road near Roosevelt Road. This is usually a service entrance, not the main park entrance. If you find yourself at the main park entrance ask the attendant at the parking kiosk to direct you to the event at the Picnic Pavilion.

Casual and bright clothes are encouraged but not required. There will be picnic food immediately following.

If you would like to take the microphone please let me know if possible.

For travelers, some nearby hotels:

Hampton Inn in Carol Stream , the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream or the Candlewood Suites in Warrenville .

Original Obituary

Julia Bon Durant Hassett, age 55, a resident of Winfield, IL, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born February 3, 1959 in Pittsfield, MA.

Julia grew up in Greenfield, MA where she enjoyed the outdoors and became a competitive skier and accomplished marksman and archer. She graduated from high school early, at the age of 16, then attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics then taught mathematics. She then attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she studied and taught mathematics, and also took up ballet and met her husband. Julia worked as an actuary in California and Illinois, then continued her teaching career in Illinois, including DeVry Institute and 15 years at Oakton Community College, where she served as chair of the department of mathematics and computer science. Julia was an avid gardener and dog lover.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, William Bon Durant; two sons, Matthew Bon Durant, and Daniel Bon Durant, both of Winfield; her father, John Hassett of Greenfield; and her brother, Kevin Hassett of Washington DC.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Hassett.
